Facebook and Fear, Miniskirts and Zen.

Wed Apr 8, 2009, 1:48 AM
Well it is a funny day when you see nothing but those four things.

A lot has transpired for me in the past months. Finding love and a place in the world are very big things. I began yet another grueling job in an unforgiving transport industry, only to be laid off for the second time. Some scraping of coins off the pavement and I was off to study my preferred interest, Information Technology. I planned for 3 years of study, but now I may have stretched to four or more. I decided to start with a diploma to gain me work during study, and that it certainly did...

Only three weeks into course, I received an offer of work as a network administrator and desktop support analyst. A beginning role, the bottom rung, so to speak - but on a much stronger and taller ladder. While I did worry about course fees for study I may not be entitled to, I learned that I will be able to sit industry standard exams - CompTIA+, ITIL and MSDS. Qualifying with those will cross-credit me for my diploma and allow me further study into my desired field: Computer Forensics and Information Assurance.

During my study so far, I have discovered a talent for presenting knowledge to a class. My tutor and senior course director are encouraging me to study for my qualification, combine it with a course of Adult Education and become a tutor in the Instute of Technology. Interesting times, where a blank page is turned overnight into a wealth of possibilities.

So now I work and learn, my employer willing to pay for my exams and further my study, providing me with access to valuable training and amazing people in the industry. Soon I learn in-depth Novell ZENworks software deployment one-on-one with a very knowledgeable man. I learn Novell SUSE Linux Enterprise Server with my day to day employment. I help users young and old gain access to exciting technologies. I look after the futures of students in my network, guarding their work and privacy.

I talk at length with my partner, Sara, about the things we learn - she studies also. Both faces are glowing with smiles after discussions and discoveries. We eat glorious organic vegetables without harm to animals and humans. We tend the garden and the worms, feeding both in a permaculture fashion. Friends bring whole milk, relatives bring their share of treats and delights. All is well here.

Where is Fear and Facebook? Well I can tell you of Fear, the new game F.E.A.R.2 that I've played breifly. The stylistic art of this game and visceral gameplay has impressed me. Since theres not much time for this type of activity as of late, it is nice to play on a nice quad core CPU headed up by 800 stream processors. It's nice to have games that bring that PC gaming feel back into light. I'll spend a little more time on this one...

Facebook and other silly sites like theses appear on my BorderControl logs all the time. The sheer wealth of information that users are willing to supply to the wide world is very scary. It is certainly a sobering heads up to the monotony of modern life, television babies and consumerism ripping through the world and its soil, air, water and life. Maybe I should change the error messages tonight.

Ok folks, gonna try to take some more images during the break. Going to visit cousins on the farm and catch up with the smell of cows and chickens. See y'all later, take care! :sun:
